Osun PDP Calls for Probe of Alleged Irregularities in Local Government Case

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has demanded that the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court probe alleged irregularities in the ongoing litigation over the local government council crisis. The party’s demand follows a dispute over the handling of a lawsuit filed by the Osun State Government.

The state government had sued the federal government to prevent the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from releasing allocations to officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were elected into the local councils. However, the case was controversially moved to Abuja, which the state government described as prejudicial.

According to Sunday Bisi, the Osun State PDP Chairman, letters to reassign the case were purportedly written and signed by Joshua Ibrahim Aji, who claimed to be an aide to the Chief Judge. Bisi questioned the authority of a non-judicial officer to sign documents that carry judicial force.

“We demand accountability. We demand transparency. Above all, we demand respect for the rule of law,” Bisi stated. The PDP is calling for a full investigation into how and why these letters were issued, alleging foul play in the handling of the case.
