RIVERS STATE – Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially returned to Rivers State today, arriving at the Port Harcourt International Airport just before noon. His arrival marks the end of a six-month state of emergency and the resumption of full democratic governance in the state.
The governor’s aircraft touched down at approximately 11:50 a.m., where he was greeted by a massive crowd of supporters. The group, which included a number of prominent political figures and former state officials, had gathered in anticipation of his arrival.
This comes two days after President Bola Tinubu officially lifted the state of emergency, which was declared on March 18, 2025, to address a deep-seated political crisis. While the Rivers State House of Assembly reconvened on Thursday, Fubara’s return was highly anticipated by his supporters, who had also gathered at the Government House yesterday in a fruitless wait.
With the governor’s return, all eyes are on the next steps for the state’s leadership as it moves to restore political stability and address key governance issues.
