Delta State will on Sunday, September 21, 2025, join the global community to mark the International Day of Peace with activities designed to foster unity, dialogue, and non-violence among its people.

The commemoration, themed “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” is being organized by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution. The event will hold at Unity Hall Annex, Edjeba, Warri.

Speaking ahead of the celebration, Chief Edwin Uzor, Special Adviser on Peace Building, described the theme as a reminder that peace is not just a distant aspiration but daily actions rooted in justice, fairness, and equal opportunity.

“This year’s celebration challenges everyone to reject violence, embrace dialogue, and pursue development as the bedrock of harmony,” Uzor said.

Highlights of the programme include a Peace Walk through major streets in Warri, lectures on conflict resolution, and the symbolic signing of a Peace Pledge by participants.

The event will bring together youth and women groups, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, NGOs, security agencies, and government representatives a show of collective commitment to peaceful coexistence.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, through his MORE Agenda, has consistently emphasized that peace and development go hand-in-hand, stressing reforms and opportunities that enhance security and social stability in the state.

Organizers have called on community leaders, faith-based groups, and individuals to use the occasion as a platform to advance peace in their localities.

“Peace requires collective action. Every Deltan has a role to play in shaping a more peaceful state, a stronger Nigeria, and a safer world,” Uzor added.

The International Day of Peace, observed annually on September 21 by the United Nations, is globally recognized as a call to action one Delta officials say they are determined to reflect in practical steps.
