Trans-Warri Road Nears Completion After 19 Years

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Trans-Warri–Ode-Itsekiri Road project is finally nearing completion, with all bridges on the alignment finished and only seven kilometers left to be asphalted.

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, disclosed this during an inspection tour yesterday, noting that officials of the Ministry of Works were able to drive smoothly across the completed bridges into Ode-Itsekiri for the first time in nearly two decades.

Conducted round the site by Special Project Director, Chief Adams Otimeyin, the Commissioner hailed the development as a landmark in Delta’s infrastructure push.

“Nineteen years after, Setraco has shown remarkable capacity to deliver this difficult project given the terrain. About two kilometers have been asphalted, with five kilometers remaining before Governor Sheriff Oborevwori inaugurates the road,” Izeze said.

He credited the breakthrough to Oborevwori’s commitment to consistent funding, stressing that the project, once stalled repeatedly under previous administrations, is now within sight of completion.

Setraco’s Project Manager, George Maron, praised the governor’s determination, assuring that the road will be completed before the end of 2025.

“This progress is possible because of the present government’s resolve to back the project fully. The funding commitment is at a very high level,” Maron affirmed.

The project, which began almost 20 years ago, will provide direct access to the historic Ode-Itsekiri community the ancestral home of the Itsekiri nation.

Beyond access, the road is expected to strengthen economic, cultural, and social ties across Delta State, marking one of the most transformative infrastructure projects in its history.
