Court Halts Police on Tinted Glass Case

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Federal High Court sitting in Warri has ordered the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector General of Police to maintain the status quo in the ongoing legal battle over the controversial tinted glass permit.

The case, marked Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, was brought by John Aikpokpo-Martins against the police authorities.

At the hearing on Friday, the court issued an interim directive instructing the police to respect judicial processes until further proceedings are concluded.

Confirming the development, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Kunle Edun, who led the legal team, described the ruling as a significant step toward upholding the rule of law.

He added that the order will ensure fairness while the substantive issues in the case are carefully determined.

Details of the ruling, including the next adjourned date, are expected to be communicated in due course.

The suit challenges the enforcement of tinted glass regulations, which has sparked public debate and raised concerns about rights, safety, and abuse of power.

Observers say the court’s decision is a relief for motorists, many of whom have complained of harassment under the enforcement regime.

The case continues to draw attention, with legal analysts noting that its outcome could redefine the scope of police authority on tinted glass regulations.

Further updates are expected as proceedings progress in the coming weeks.
