ADC Expels Members Over Suit Against El-Rufai, Reaffirms Opposition Unity

By Peter Onyekachukwu, Kaduna

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expelled some of its members in Kaduna State for allegedly filing a court case against key leaders of the opposition coalition, including former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and the party’s National Vice Chairman (Northwest), Ja’afaru Sani.

Sani, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Kaduna, said the expelled members were being used by “mercenary politicians” to infiltrate and undermine the unity of opposition forces in the state.

“We noted that as part of the initiative to infiltrate and weaken the unity of opposition political leaders, some mercenary politicians have sponsored willing tools to institute a court case against some leaders of the coalition, including Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and myself,” Sani said.

He stated that the coalition leaders had unanimously resolved to blacklist and expel all those involved in the move, describing it as a desperate attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilize the opposition.

Sani further announced the appointment of former Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman, as Chairman, and former Kaduna State Commissioner for Finance, Bashir Sa’idu, an ally of El-Rufai, as Co-Chairman of the ADC Coalition in Kaduna State.

According to him, the appointments were aimed at repositioning the party to serve as a rallying point for all opposition leaders and promote disciplined leadership in the state.

“With this decision, Senator Nenadi Usman will now lead the reorganization of the ADC in Kaduna and coordinate coalition activities in the state,” Sani added.

He emphasized that the ADC remains committed to uniting opposition parties under one platform to end what he described as “the current hopeless APC regime of tyranny in the state and the country.”
