In a major pre-election security sweep, the Police Headquarters in Abuja has deployed advanced tactical teams, backed by helicopters and surveillance drones, to Anambra State to ensure a safe and hitch-free governorship election on November 8.
The massive security reinforcement, approved by the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun, is part of a strategic operational plan designed to reinforce local security architecture across the state’s twenty-one Local Government Areas (LGAs).
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrival of the Force Headquarters Advance Tactical Teams in Awka. This deployment is aimed at strengthening the command with specialized manpower and cutting-edge technology for enhanced security coverage.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, expressed his appreciation for the I-G’s unwavering commitment to the safety of lives and property. Orutugu highlighted that the deployment of helicopters and surveillance drones will facilitate the real-time monitoring of flashpoints, border communities, and other key locations throughout the election period.
The aerial surveillance will actively complement the extensive land operations already in place, which include robust patrols by tactical units, specialized police squads, and intelligence operatives. The Commissioner affirmed that the combined efforts of the command and the newly arrived tactical operatives will significantly enhance visibility policing, ensure rapid response to any emerging threats, and

CP Orutugu reassured residents of the firm commitment to creating a secure environment where law-abiding citizens can exercise their civic duties without fear or intimidation before, during, and after the poll. He urged the public to remain vigilant, supportive of the police efforts, and promptly report any suspicious persons or movements using the Command’s emergency hotlines.
