A Phone Call Away: Delta State Police Command Opens Direct Lines to Residents

By Peter Onyekachukwu

For many residents of Delta State, moments of danger often come with a familiar frustration knowing who to call and getting help on time. The Delta State Police Command says it is determined to change that narrative.

In a move aimed at putting reassurance back into the hands of the people, the Command has made senior police officers directly reachable, allowing citizens to speak with those who have the authority to act swiftly.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, approved the public release of the official contact numbers of all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Commanders across the state.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Command to strengthen transparency, accountability and trust between the police and the communities they serve.

Officials explained that the open lines are designed to encourage prompt reporting of crimes and suspicious activities, reducing response time and preventing avoidable loss of lives and property.

For residents in remote or crime-prone areas, the development offers a sense of relief, as access to police leadership is no longer filtered through layers of bureaucracy.

Beyond emergencies, the Command noted that the measure will also improve intelligence gathering, as residents can now share credible information directly with officers in charge of their areas.

The Police Command, however, cautioned that the contact numbers must be used responsibly and strictly for security-related matters.

It warned that prank calls, false alarms and the spread of misleading information could undermine the initiative and attract sanctions.

Reaffirming its mandate, the Delta State Police Command said it remains committed to proactive, people-centred policing built on cooperation and professionalism.

The Command urged residents to see the initiative as a shared responsibility and to partner with the police in sustaining peace and security across Delta State.
