A Royal Summit in Delta State As The Olu of Warri and Orodje of Okpe Forge a New Era of Unity

WARRI, DELTA STATE – In a powerful display of tradition and modern statesmanship, the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, paid a momentous visit to the Orodje of Okpe, His Majesty Umogu Orhue I, on Wednesday. The meeting, which has been hailed as a significant step toward regional peace, was not just a courtesy call but a symbolic gathering of two of the Niger Delta’s most influential monarchs.

The Olu of Warri, a young and charismatic monarch who ascended the throne in 2021, is known for his progressive vision and his commitment to building bridges with neighboring kingdoms. The Orodje of Okpe, a retired Major General in the Nigerian Army and current Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Council, brings a wealth of experience in both military and traditional governance to his role. This combination of youthful vision and seasoned leadership makes their alliance particularly potent.

The air was thick with mutual respect as the two royal fathers, seated as brothers, discussed the future of their people. They affirmed their commitment to strengthening the bond between their kingdoms, which have historically shared complex relationships. The Okpe people are believed to have a history rooted in the Benin Kingdom, just like the Itsekiri, and their cultures share several similarities. This shared heritage provides a strong foundation for the peace and integration they are now actively pursuing.

As both monarchs emphasized the need for continuous peacebuilding, the message was clear: in a region often plagued by ethnic tensions, a united front is the only way to ensure stability and progress. This royal summit serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that dialogue and mutual respect can overcome historical grievances and pave the way for a more prosperous future for all.
