Abuja–Kaduna Train Service to Resume Next Week

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Abuja–Kaduna passenger train service will resume operations next week.

This follows the successful completion of repairs and safety checks on the affected section of the track at Asham, which caused the suspension of the service after the derailment incident of August 26, 2025.

Confirming the development on Saturday, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, Callistus Unyimadu, said the corporation worked tirelessly to restore both infrastructure and rolling stock to the highest safety standards in line with global best practices.

Although he did not specify the exact date of resumption, Unyimadu assured passengers that further details on the schedule would be released in the coming days.

As part of its commitment to passenger welfare, the NRC disclosed that it had refunded 512 out of the 583 passengers affected by the derailment, with efforts ongoing to reach the remaining passengers.

The corporation also expressed appreciation to passengers for their patience and understanding during the suspension, stressing that their safety, comfort, and satisfaction remain its top priority.

It further acknowledged the support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders throughout the recovery period.

The NRC assured the public that the Abuja–Kaduna train service will return stronger and safer, promising reliable operations going forward.
