OSOGBO, NIGERIA – Less than 24 hours before the governorship primary of the Accord Party (AP) in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke officially announced his switch to the party, confirming his intention to seek re-election on its platform in 2026.
Governor Adeleke, who had resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on December 1, made the official declaration yesterday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
The governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Olawale Rasheed, disclosed in a statement that the Accord Party is the new political platform where the Governor intends to seek a second term.
Governor Adeleke explained that his decision to join the Accord Party was finalized after weeks of extensive consultation and deliberation with stakeholders and opinion leaders, revealing that he had joined the party as early as November 6.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens and workers’ welfare,” Governor Adeleke stated. He welcomed the party leaders to the Government House, declaring, “You are now part of us as I am also now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.”
The Governor emphasized that the primary essence of government is the welfare and well-being of the people, a philosophy that has defined his administration’s priorities, ranging from infrastructure to social services.
“At this historical point, our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections,” he said. “Our party, Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state.”
Adeleke expressed confidence in his new political home, asserting that Osun State voted for good governance in 2022 and will support continuity in 2026. He concluded his declaration by stating: “In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and to accord deep respect for the wishes of Osun people, I, hereby, accordingly declare for the Accord Party.”
