By Peter Onyekachukwu, Warri.

DELTA: Hundreds of passengers have been stranded for two days at the Warri train station, Delta State, following the breakdown of the free train service introduced for the festive season. The unexpected disruption, which occurred at the height of holiday travel, has left passengers frustrated and disillusioned. Many have lamented the apparent lack of maintenance that led to the situation.“This is extremely disappointing. We’ve been stuck here for two days, and it seems like no one cares,” said a stranded passenger. “Maybe because the service is free, they feel it doesn’t deserve proper maintenance.”The free train service, launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ease travel for Nigerians during the festive season, was widely applauded when it began. The initiative allowed citizens to travel at no cost from December 20 to January 5, aiming to reduce the financial burden of the holidays. However, the breakdown at Warri station has overshadowed the goodwill of the program. Passengers at the station described the scene as chaotic, with the crowd swelling each day.“We commend the government for the initiative, but this breakdown is causing unnecessary hardship. The authorities must act swiftly to fix the train and get us moving,” another passenger said.As of the time of this report, there has been no official explanation for the breakdown or when services will resume. Passengers are urging the government and railway authorities to expedite repairs and provide alternative arrangements to ease their plight. What began as a festive gesture to bring relief to Nigerians has turned into a source of frustration for travelers stranded in Delta State, who now hope for swift intervention to salvage the situation.
