Air Chief: Borderless Threats Endangering Nigeria’s Nat’l Security

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has warned that emerging threats such as terrorism, banditry, and cybercrime, which transcend boundaries and jurisdictions, are posing serious risks to Nigeria’s national security.

Speaking on Monday in Jos, Plateau State capital, during the 2025 Air Provost Conference, Abubakar called for sustained collaboration among security agencies, stressing that national security is a collective duty.

“Emerging threats such as terrorism, banditry, and cybercrime do not respect jurisdictional boundaries and therefore require a unified, multi-agency response,” he said in remarks delivered by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

The Air Chief emphasized the need to strengthen inter-agency bonds through joint intelligence sharing, crime detection, coordinated operations, and mutual capacity building.

“We must continue to dismantle institutional barriers and operate as one unified force for the security of our nation,” he added.

Highlighting the role of the Air Provost, Abubakar described them as the “custodians of discipline” and “guardians of installations,” whose work is central to internal order and wider operational success.

Earlier, the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal Idi Sani, underscored the importance of the Air Provost in maintaining discipline, enforcing regulations, and protecting NAF infrastructure.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, commended the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies for their relentless efforts in sustaining peace in the state.
