Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed as false a report alleging that he made derogatory remarks against former United States President Donald Trump, describing the publication as a mischievous fabrication aimed at creating diplomatic tension.
In a statement on Monday, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, said the report circulating online was “entirely fabricated” and falsely attributed to the Senate President.
“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious and entirely fabricated report falsely attributing a reckless statement to the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio,” Eyiboh said.
The fake publication claimed Akpabio had advised Trump to focus on America’s domestic issues and stop commenting on Nigeria’s affairs, quoting him as saying Nigerians were “satisfied with the condition of Nigeria.”
Eyiboh described the alleged statement as a calculated attempt to sow discord between Akpabio and President Trump and, by extension, strain Nigeria’s relations with international partners.
He added that the photo attached to the fake report was used deceitfully to make the fabricated quote appear credible.
“Senator Akpabio is a statesman of global standing and a strong advocate of diplomacy, mutual respect, and international cooperation,” Eyiboh clarified.
“He holds President Trump in high esteem and would never interfere in the domestic affairs of another nation, nor issue statements outside Nigeria’s official foreign policy framework.”
He condemned the report as a deliberate act of “digital recklessness” targeted at tarnishing the Senate President’s image and stirring unnecessary diplomatic misunderstanding.
Eyiboh urged Nigerians and the international community to ignore the false publication, reaffirming the Senate President’s commitment to truth, transparency, and responsible communication.
