Akpabio’s Aide Denies Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Claims of Victimization

ABUJA – The Senate has denied allegations by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) that she was treated like a “domestic servant” and victimized by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The denial comes after the Senator, who recently returned to her office following a six-month suspension, accused Akpabio of acting like a “dictator.”

On Channels TV on Wednesday morning, Akpabio’s media aide, Kenny Okolugbo, defended the Senate’s actions, stating that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension was a result of due process. He explained that the decision to suspend her for “gross misconduct” was based on findings from the Ethics and Privileges Committee and was in line with Senate rules.

Okolugbo also dismissed her claim of having “no apology to tender,” highlighting the privileges and opportunities she had been given under Akpabio’s leadership. He pointed out that since her inauguration, she had been made the chairman of the committee on local contents, a member of the International Public Parliamentary Union, and a member of ECOWAS. He also noted that one of her bills, on the Federal Medical Centre in Kogi State, was passed into law while she was on suspension.

Okolugbo maintained that the Senate followed its rules throughout the process and dismissed the accusations of personal persecution as “baseless.” He asserted that the Senate President has a good working relationship with all senators and that the Senator’s claims of being treated like a slave were “untrue.” Sources
