Former Chief Security Officer to late General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (rtd), has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Al-Mustapha made the announcement on Tuesday during a strategic meeting with SDP stakeholders and supporters in Minna, Niger State, where he pledged to serve the nation with integrity and a renewed vision.
“I am pained by the state of the nation. But with the right leadership, Nigeria can rise again,” he said.
According to his campaign’s Director of Media, Jubril Umar Sanda, the declaration marks the start of nationwide engagements ahead of 2027. Al-Mustapha also visited Mokwa to sympathize with flood victims.
SDP State Chairman Buhari Yakubu Yarima welcomed the move, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects. Al-Mustapha joins a growing field of contenders amid rising calls for strong leadership and national renewal.
