Alaafin Urged to Unite Yoruba and Itsekiri as Oduduwa Descendants

The Iyasere of Warri Kingdom, Chief Johnson Amatsereuleghe, has called on the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, to promote unity among all descendants of Oduduwa.

Leading a delegation of Itsekiri leaders to the Alaafin’s palace, Amatsereuleghe said the time had come to strengthen ties between the Yoruba and Itsekiri people.

“This is a historic moment. The Alaafin must help heal old divisions and unite all children of Oduduwa for peace and progress,” he said.

He also raised concerns over the continued marginalisation of the Itsekiri in Delta State, insisting their Yoruba roots are undeniable.

“Our language, culture, and oral history clearly link us to Oduduwa. We cannot continue to be excluded,” he added.

In response, Oba Owoade welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the shared ancestry between both groups.

“What affects the Itsekiri affects all Yoruba people. We share one history, one bloodline, and one future,” the Alaafin said, noting his familiarity with Warri culture from his National Youth Service in the area.

The Alaafin pledged to work toward the prosperity of all Oduduwa descendants.

The Warri delegation included prominent chiefs, local government officials, and community leaders committed to rebuilding cultural and ancestral ties.
