Abuja, Nigeria – April 23, 2025
In a dramatic political development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially welcomed the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, into its fold, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape. The move, described as “highly elating” by the APC’s National Working Committee, also includes the defection of several high-ranking members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Among the defectors is former Delta State Governor and 2023 PDP Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, along with senior administration officials, members of the Delta State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, councilors, and a large number of PDP supporters.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the APC. The party expressed its readiness to fully integrate the new members and work in unity toward the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This development, following a wave of PDP defections including the Delta Unity Group in Ika Federal Constituency, reaffirms APC’s growing influence in Delta State,” Morka said. “We are confident that this will significantly boost efforts for good governance and the prosperity of all Deltans and Nigerians.”
The mass defection signals a possible end to PDP dominance in Delta State and positions the APC for stronger influence in the South-South region ahead of future elections.
