Arise News Anchor Died After Jumping from Apartment During Armed Robbery—FCT Police Confirm

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner, CP Ajao Adewale, has confirmed that Arise News Anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, died on Monday after jumping from the top floor of her apartment building during an armed robbery incident.

Speaking on Arise TV, CP Adewale provided details of the tragic event that occurred at Unique Apartment, a three-story twin building located in the Gishiri axis of Katampe.

The Commissioner explained that “unknown armed robbers gained access to Unique Apartments where Maduagwu lived.” Two private security guards were on duty, and one was shot while attempting to challenge the robbers.

“In the panic that followed, Maduagwu, who lived on the topmost floor of the building, jumped down from the third storey,” Adewale stated. “The consequences were tragic and very unfortunate.”

Police officers arrived at the scene and found Maduagwu lying unconscious. She was immediately rushed to Maitama General Hospital, where doctors attempted resuscitation, “but sadly, she could not make it,” the CP confirmed.

CP Adewale assured the public that a specific investigation team, headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) and involving all tactical units, has been set up to track down the attackers.

“The leads we are getting are already being worked on, and no stone will be left unturned until the perpetrators are brought to justice,” he vowed, extending condolences to Maduagwu’s family and the Arise News team.
