Army Chief Tasks 6 Division on Asset Protection, Assures Troops of Improved Welfare

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has tasked troops of the Nigerian Army 6 Division to sustain robust security operations in the Niger Delta to safeguard critical national assets and support improved oil production.

Shaibu gave the charge while addressing officers and soldiers at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of 6 Division at the Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.

He stressed that maintaining peace and security in the oil-rich region was vital to national economic stability, urging troops to remain professional, disciplined and committed in carrying out their duties in line with the Division’s mandate.

The Army Chief also reassured personnel that their welfare remains a core priority of his administration, noting that concrete steps are being taken to address operational constraints and welfare-related challenges facing officers and soldiers.

According to him, his ongoing nationwide visits to army formations and units are aimed at assessing operational readiness firsthand and identifying areas requiring immediate intervention.

Shaibu said the Nigerian Army would continue to prioritise the welfare of personnel and their families, stressing that improved living and working conditions were key to boosting morale and enhancing operational effectiveness.

“Let me assure you that the Nigerian Army will take care of your work-related issues, which is our topmost priority. You will get what you deserve and what you are entitled to. This will go a long way in mitigating some of the accommodation challenges,” he said.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, said troops of the Division were operationally ready and fully prepared to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
