The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed all its branches across Nigerian universities to commence a total and indefinite two-week warning strike beginning Monday.
ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, announced the decision during a press briefing at the union’s national secretariat, University of Abuja, on Sunday.
He said the action became necessary following the Federal Government’s failure to address key demands of the union despite several warnings and meetings.
Piwuna explained that the strike is to compel the government to fulfil outstanding agreements on university funding, payment systems, and lecturers’ welfare, among others.
He urged all zonal and branch chairmen of the union to ensure full compliance with the directive, adding that ASUU remains committed to defending the integrity of public universities in Nigeria.
