Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to step down for another presidential aspirant, describing them as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku clarified that the misrepresentation stemmed from his recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service.
The statement noted that a thorough review of the video and transcripts of the interview in both Hausa and English confirmed that Atiku never stated, suggested, or implied that he would step down for anyone.
According to Ibe, Atiku only emphasised that young Nigerians and other aspirants are free to contest, adding that he would support any young candidate who emerges through a credible primary.
He, however, cautioned against stretching journalistic interpretation to the point of mischief, insisting that such reports do not reflect the former Vice President’s actual remarks.
The statement reaffirmed that insinuations about Atiku’s withdrawal are inaccurate and should be disregarded.
