By Peter Onyekachukwu

Five police officers have been killed and two others injured after suspected bandits ambushed a combined tactical team in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Spokesman of the Bauchi State Police Command, CSP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the tragic attack in a statement on Sunday, describing it as a “deeply painful loss” to the force.

According to Wakil, the team comprising personnel of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 10 PMF Bauchi, Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) and the State Intelligence Department (SID) was on an intelligence-led visibility patrol aimed at preventing farmer herder conflict when it came under heavy gunfire from bandits.

“Five officers paid the supreme price, two were injured, while a reasonable number of the bandits were neutralised,” Wakil said.

He explained that the patrol followed credible intelligence from a Good Samaritan who alerted the command about suspicious movement in the area.

Wakil identified the slain officers as DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID), ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF), Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF), Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF) and Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU).

The injured officers are Inspector Isah Musa (SID) and Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID).

The attack occurred on 22nd November, 2025, at about 12:40pm, when the officers were ambushed by unidentified armed Fulani youths believed to be behind a spike in violent activities around the Sabon Sara axis.

Upon receiving the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer in Darazo, SP Auwalu Ilu, led a reinforcement team to the scene, evacuating the injured officers for treatment and recovering the bodies of the fallen personnel.

Wakil added that “intense efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators,” assuring residents that the command remains committed to its duty despite the heavy loss.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the area and commiserated with the families of the deceased officers.

He vowed that the command would remain “fierce, tireless and relentless” in its work to protect the lives and property of citizens across Bauchi State
