DELTA: The Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, has rewarded four exceptional students from the state with a total of N4 million for their outstanding performance in the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
The beneficiaries include, Kawthar Shehu (scored 348), Geoffrey Yakubu (scored 347), Abdullahi Garba (scored 347), Magaji Umar (scored 333)
Each student received N1 million during a presentation held on Tuesday at the Ministry of Education, Bauchi. The governor, represented by the Head of Service, Yahuza Adamu, said the gesture aims to encourage academic excellence and inspire other students to work harder in their studies.
“If someone can sit here in Bauchi and score 348 in JAMB, it shows that our education system is working,” Governor Mohammed said. “These four students have proven that many more have the potential to excel, and we are committed to supporting them.”
He stressed the importance of human capital development, noting that education remains the foundation of societal growth.
“If you want to destroy a nation, you don’t need guns or ammunition. Just destroy its education system, and the nation is gone,” the governor added. “That is why we prioritize education in Bauchi State.”
The governor also urged students in the state to remain focused on their studies, promising continued government support for quality education.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Ali Babayo, said the idea to reward top JAMB performers was initiated to encourage students to strive for excellence.
“We reached out to JAMB for the names of Bauchi State indigenes who scored the highest marks in the 2024 examination,” Babayo explained. “This reward is to motivate students preparing for future exams to aim higher.”
Babayo commended Governor Mohammed for providing a conducive environment for implementing education policies in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the parents, Malam Ali Garba thanked the state government for the generous support and assured that the money would be used judiciously to support the students’ education.
“This gesture has given us hope and further inspired our children to achieve more in their academic pursuits,” Garba said.
The event ended with a call on other students across the state to emulate the awardees and aim for academic success in their future endeavors.
