Bauchi Govt Rebuilds Home of First Civilian Governor, Tatari Ali

By Peter Onyekachukwu, Bauchi

The Bauchi State Government has commenced the reconstruction of the private residence of the late Abubakar Tatari Ali, the state’s first democratically elected governor, in his hometown of Zaki Local Government Area.

Tatari Ali, who governed Bauchi State from 1979 until the military coup of December 31, 1983, passed away on May 28, 1993, at the age of 64.

Speaking during a media tour of ongoing and completed projects under Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration, the State Commissioner for Information, Usman Shehu Usman, said the governor ordered the reconstruction during a visit to Zaki. He explained that the project is aimed at restoring the dignity of the late governor’s legacy, as his residence had long fallen into disrepair.

According to him, the project also features a monument with a tomb, a museum, a befitting mosque, and an Islamic school reflecting Tatari Ali’s values of good governance and deep religious commitment.

The contractor, Architect Jibrin Mahmoud, disclosed that work has reached about 90 percent completion and is expected to be delivered within a month.
