Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Salamatu (surname withheld), for allegedly stabbing her husband to death following a heated argument over the custody of her six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
The incident occurred in Nadabo village, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, and was confirmed by the police spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakil, on Monday.
According to Wakil, the couple had been experiencing tensions in their marriage, primarily due to disagreements over the wife’s daughter. Initial discussions with Salamatu’s family reportedly suggested that the child would be raised in their home, but the husband later opposed the decision, leading to frequent disputes.
“During an argument, the wife allegedly grabbed a knife from their bedroom and stabbed her husband,” Wakil said.
Police detectives from the Bununu Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly to a distress call and rushed the victim to the Cottage Hospital in Bununu. However, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival due to the severity of his injuries.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa, has ordered a thorough investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department, with legal action to follow based on their findings.
