BY PETER ONYEKACHUKWU

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested some of its officers captured in a viral video assaulting a tricycle (keke) rider in the state, saying disciplinary action has commenced against them.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Musa Muhammad, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the officers are being tried in line with the provisions of the Police Act and other relevant regulations.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, strongly condemned the conduct of the officers, describing it as unprofessional, unacceptable and contrary to the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The attention of the Bayelsa State Police Command has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media, allegedly showing police officers assaulting a tricycle driver,” the statement said.

It added that the commissioner reiterated that the command has zero tolerance for human rights violations, brutality or any form of unprofessional behaviour by its personnel.

PRIME GOSSIP reports that the incident came to public attention after a video showing the assault surfaced on social media platforms on Friday, sparking widespread condemnation.

The police assured residents of the state of its commitment to protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring that officers found guilty of misconduct are sanctioned accordingly.
