Brain Jotter Mourns Highlife Legend Mike Ejeagha

Popular Nigerian skit maker, Brain Jotter, has mourned the passing of iconic highlife musician Mike ‘Gentleman’ Ejeagha, who died on Friday after battling prostate cancer.

In an emotional Instagram post on Saturday, Brain Jotter shared a throwback video from his 2024 visit to Ejeagha’s Enugu home. The clip showed the touching moment between the skit maker and the veteran musician, whose 1983 track ‘Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo’ recently went viral.

“39 years ago, he made magic. 39 years later, we danced to it again. Now, he rests, but his melody lives forever. Rest in peace, legend,” Brain Jotter wrote.

The highlife classic, ‘Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo’, found new life after Brain Jotter used it in a viral dance challenge, which amassed over 29 million views on Instagram and nearly 20 million on TikTok. In appreciation, Brain Jotter visited the late artist and gifted him ₦2 million.

Ejeagha, a pioneer of Igbo folklore music, was known for blending wisdom, storytelling, and culture into his songs. His death has sparked widespread tributes from fans, musicians, and cultural figures across Nigeria.
