BREAKING: Gas explosion claims many lives, 4 houses, 15 vehicles in Lagos

LAGOS: Scores of persons have died in a ghastly gas explosion that occured at the Otedola bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Tuesday night.

Four houses, 15 vehicles, many tricycles as well as many shoos were completely burnt I’m the inferno that followed the explosion.

The raging fire from the tanker also affected some patients oj admission in a private hospital close to the scene of the accident

Emergency works are still battling to recovered the remains of the severely burnt victims.

Those who died were said to have been trapped inside their vehicles when the explosion occured.

The incident caused heavy vehicular movement on both sides of the road, stretching several millimeters.

Bodies of many of the victims burnt beyond recognition were carted away in emergency workers in several ambulances.

Eye witnesses alleged that the incident occurred around 8.10pn as the fully loaded tanker conveying gas tried to ascend the link road to access the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

It was learnt that some of those who died when trapped in their vehicle when the fire got to them in the never ending lineup of vehicles.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident saying that ifs is a case of gas explosion.

Hundeyin disclosed that a distress call was received that there was a fire outbreak as a result of an explosion from an articulated vehicle carrying gas.

He said the accident was sysoected ti have occured when the vehicle was trying to connect the link road inyo the Lagos-Ibadan expressway by Otedola bridge

“Consequently the vehicle summersaulted and spilled it’s entire content on the road. It ignited immediate fire. The vehicle registration number is currently unknown.

*However, a total of four buildings, 15 vehicles including tricycles and unspecified number of shoos were burnt and household properties worth billions of naira destroyed.

“The number of human lives that perished in the inferno are still being quartered as only two bodies were recovered.

*A private hospital was affected. Details of the victims affected by the fire in the hospital are still sketchy as of now. Rescue worker still ongoing” he added
