Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State on Tuesday, June 4, 2025, commissioned a series of completed road projects and medical equipment in Warri South Local Government Area with His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III the Olu of Warri, gracing the occasion.

The projects included a total of 10.9 kilometres of newly constructed and rehabilitated intra-city roads and 9.03 kilometres of drainage systems across strategic parts of Warri. Major roads commissioned include Upper and Lower Erejuwa Roads, the reconstructed General Hospital Road with a spur to Police Command Road, and the reconstructed Esisi Road connecting Warri/Sapele Road to the Estate Roundabout with a spur to Nana College Road linking Ajamimogha Road.

Others are the construction of the Ogunu (Agogo) Community main road and its internal networks, rehabilitation of the road from Ogunu Bridge to Shell Gate, the overlay of Princess Abaje, Mike Dottie Street, Isaac Botosan and Creek View Layout roads in Ugbuwangue, and the construction of Ope Street with a spur to Omene Street.

Speaking at the commissioning event, Governor Oborevwori stated, “These projects reflect our M.O.R.E agenda in action. We are deliberately focusing on Warri and other major urban centres in our state to open up economic access and reduce the suffering of our people. We are building roads not just to connect communities but to connect lives and livelihoods.”

Alongside the roads, the Governor also commissioned vital healthcare equipment at the Central Hospital, Warri, including three Nipro Harmodialysis machines. Additionally, 25 units of 4D ultrasound scanning machines were distributed across the 25 local government areas of the state.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized the significance of the health interventions: “A government that truly cares must invest in the health of its people. These machines will not only enhance diagnostic services but will also bring relief to thousands of Deltans who previously had to travel far and wide for such care.”

Residents of Warri, visibly elated by the developments, praised the Governor’s dedication to restoring the city’s infrastructure and dignity. Mrs. Elohor Ikomi, a resident of Ugbuwangue, said, “We never believed this road would be fixed in our time. This is the first time in years we are seeing government presence that touches the lives of ordinary people here.”

The commissioning exercise drew traditional leaders, community stakeholders, health professionals and youth groups who hailed the projects as transformative. The Governor pledged that more communities in Warri and across Delta State would benefit from similar interventions in the months ahead.

“These are not isolated interventions. They are part of a comprehensive plan to restore and reposition our cities to meet 21st-century standards,” the Governor added.

With this move, the Oborevwori-led administration has sent a strong message that Delta’s oil city is gradually reclaiming its pride of place, one road and one hospital at a time.
