Buratai Condemns Wike’s Actions, Demands Unreserved Apology.

ABUJA—The former Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), has sharply condemned the recent conduct of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, towards a young military officer, describing the behavior as a “serious threat to national security.”

General Buratai emphasized that immediate action must be taken over Minister Wike’s actions, stressing that the issue transcends politics and directly concerns the integrity of the Armed Forces and national stability.

Buratai warned that insulting and humiliating a soldier in uniform amounts to an “act of betrayal against national security.” He argued that such disrespect undermines the honor and dignity of the military, directly impacting the country’s stability and security.

According to the former Army Chief, every officer in uniform represents the President and the sovereignty of Nigeria. Therefore, showing disrespect to a soldier is equivalent to disrespecting the Commander-in-Chief and the entire nation.

Demand for Apology and Warning

In a strong warning, General Buratai advised Minister Wike to tender an unreserved apology to the President, the young officer involved, and the Nigerian Army at large.

He stated that every patriotic Nigerian has been deeply angered by the incident, cautioning that the Nigerian Armed Forces will “never allow politicians to bring the military uniform into disrepute.” Buratai concluded by warning Wike that if he fails to exercise caution, his actions could eventually cost him his position.

The statement serves as a timely and stern warning, urging that the situation be addressed immediately before it escalates further.
