Court Gives Green Light for PDP Convention, Orders INEC to Monitor

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Oyo State High Court has cleared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to proceed with its elective national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In an interim order delivered on Monday, November 3, 2025, Justice A. L. Akintola directed the party to conduct the convention and elect new national officers as contained in its approved timetable and guidelines.

The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to attend, monitor, and observe the convention pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice.

The ruling followed a suit filed by Mr. Folahan Malomo Adelabi, an aspirant for the position of Deputy National Organizing Secretary, who prayed the court to compel the PDP to hold the convention as planned, having met all statutory requirements.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Akintola said the claimant had made a case for urgent judicial intervention to prevent disruption of the party’s democratic process.

He held: “Having carefully considered the claimant’s motion ex-parte, affidavit, and written address, this court finds merit in the application and hereby grants the interim orders as prayed.”

The court further ordered the PDP’s National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, and National Convention Organizing Committee to comply fully with the approved schedule and proceed with the convention.

Justice Akintola clarified that the interim order would remain in effect pending the hearing of the substantive motion on notice, which the court fixed for Monday, November 10, 2025.
