DELTA: An Olomoro Chief Magistrate Court has nullified the election of Chief Adonis Ubuwere and his executive members of the Irri Federal Union (IFU).
The court directed government agencies to withdraw recognition of the leadership, citing procedural breaches during the election held on March 14, 2024.
Delivering the ruling on November 29, 2024, Chief Magistrate C. E. Amudo stated that the election was conducted despite a pending suit and a motion for an interlocutory injunction filed by Raphael Arovah and four others.
“The applicants have fulfilled the requirements of the law for the court to exercise its discretion. I, therefore, set aside the election, selection, or appointment of Chief Adonis Ubuwere and the other elected executives of the IFU,” Amudo ruled.
The court also directed that recognition of the executive by any government agency be withdrawn until the substantive suit is resolved.
In response, Chief Ubuwere disclosed that he has filed for a stay of execution and an appeal against the ruling.
“I have filed for a stay of execution and an appeal challenging the court’s decision. By the court’s directive, we maintain the status quo, and I remain the President-General of the Irri Federal Union until the case is determined,” he stated.
This ruling has generated discussions among members of the Irri community, as stakeholders await the resolution of the substantive case.
