The Kano/Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over intercepted illicit drugs worth thousands of capsules and tablets to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar said the contraband, concealed in five agro sacks, included 261,750 capsules of polyglycine 300mg and 28,700 tablets of tramadol hydrochloride 225mg.
A suspect was arrested alongside a tinted green Nissan Pathfinder vehicle, a cutting knife, and ₦455,500 allegedly offered as a bribe to officers at the point of interception.
Abubakar warned that such substances endanger public health and fuel crimes like banditry, thuggery, and armed robbery, while also weakening the nation’s economy.
He stressed that the seizure contravened sections 55C and 234 of the NCS Act 2023, which mandate the service to safeguard lives and curb smuggling.
Receiving the exhibits, NDLEA Kano Commander Muhammad Usman Mai-Adua commended Customs for the synergy and vowed diligent investigation.
He confirmed that the NDLEA had taken custody of the suspect, the drugs, the Pathfinder vehicle, ₦455,500, and the knife for further action.
Mai-Adua assured that the agency would intensify collaboration with Customs to stem drug trafficking in Kano and Jigawa States.
