DELTA: Delta State Government has officially begun the construction of the access road to the proposed Asaba Waterfront City, a major developmental project aimed at transforming the state capital.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, while inspecting the site today, emphasized that the project, which was initiated by the previous administration, follows a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The state government is responsible for constructing a 6-lane access road, while private developers will handle the land reclamation and city development.

“Asaba is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for property developers, especially from Lagos and the South-East,” Governor Oborevwori remarked. “We are committed to making Asaba a hub for development, as it offers comfort, hospitality, and growth opportunities.”

The Governor further highlighted that while 20% of the road construction has been completed, there are challenges due to buildings obstructing the right of way. He reassured the public that compensation for affected property owners has been processed, and funds have been released to the contractors for the project’s continued progress.

“The contractors have committed to completing the road by July, and we are confident that the entire project will be finished by the end of this year,” Oborevwori added.

In addition, the Governor inspected the ongoing construction of the Oko-Amakom to Oko-Obiakpu road, which is vital for flood resilience, as well as the Marine Road off Cable Point Road in Asaba. He affirmed that the state government is making strides to enhance infrastructure and improve the living conditions of residents.

“Our commitment to developing rural areas and boosting the economy of our people remains strong,” Oborevwori stated. “This year, we will see significant improvements in Asaba and across the state.”
