DELTA: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a fair and lasting resolution of the Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja communal crisis while pledging more developmental projects for Ijaw communities.

During a visit to Ijaw traditional rulers and political leaders at the Ugborikoko residence of the Pere of Ogulagha Kingdom and Chairman of the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers’ Forum, Captain (Elder) Joseph Timiyen, the governor commended both communities for embracing peace.

“I am deeply impressed that both Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja have maintained peace since my appeal. Rest assured, my administration will handle this matter without bias, ensuring fairness for all parties,” Oborevwori stated.

The governor acknowledged the steadfast support of the Ijaw people in his 2023 election victory and assured them that his administration would reciprocate through meaningful development.

“You have stood by me, and I will not take your loyalty for granted. I delayed this visit because I wanted to come with good news. At our last State Executive Council meeting, we approved several projects for Ijaw communities,” he said.

Oborevwori also reassured the traditional rulers of his commitment to completing the Ayakoromo Bridge, stating that it is now under an Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO) to guarantee steady funding. He further announced plans to establish a model school in Gbaramatu, addressing concerns about access to quality education.

The governor extended his condolences to the Ijaw nation over the passing of elder statesman Pa Edwin Clark, describing him as “a pillar of leadership” whose legacy would endure.

In his response, Captain (Elder) Joseph Timiyen lauded the governor’s visit, urging the state government to deploy more teachers to riverine communities and establish tertiary institutions within Ijaw land. Other traditional rulers also appealed for road construction, electricity restoration in Isaba Kingdom, and a fair resolution of the Ogbe-Ijoh/Aladja dispute.

Governor Oborevwori assured them that their concerns would be reviewed, pledging that his administration would prioritize the most critical needs of Ijaw communities.
