DELTA: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has underscored the economic significance of the Benin-Asaba Expressway, calling for its sustained maintenance to enhance regional trade and connectivity.
Speaking at the flag-off of the highway’s reconstruction on Sunday, where he was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, Oborevwori described the road as a vital link between Nigeria’s Eastern and Western regions. He emphasized that its rehabilitation would not only ease transportation but also drive economic growth.
“This expressway is a major economic corridor connecting different parts of the country. Ensuring its durability will facilitate trade, create jobs, and improve the ease of movement for our people,” he said.
Oborevwori also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the project and commended the Federal Ministry of Works for adopting a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to fund the reconstruction.
Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, described the road project as a game-changer for the region, while Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, assured that the Federal Government remains committed to delivering quality road infrastructure across the country.
“The Benin-Asaba Expressway is a crucial link between the South-South and South-East. President Tinubu is determined to ensure that major highways across Nigeria meet global standards,” Umahi stated.
The project, which extends from Benin to the Second Niger Bridge, is expected to improve mobility and trade across the corridor, reinforcing its role as a key driver of economic integration in Nigeria.
