Delta Governor Warns Commissioners: Perform or Be Replaced

Asaba,– Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Monday issued a stern warning to his cabinet members, stating that only high performance, not loyalty or gossip, will guarantee their positions. The Governor’s remarks came during the commissioning of eight new duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba.

Dismissing “rumours” of an impending dissolution of the Executive Council, Oborevwori declared, “But let me be clear: if you’re not performing, we will drop you.” He revealed that at least two or three commissioners are currently under scrutiny for underperformance, and he has already directly addressed one of them.

Governor Oborevwori underscored that accountability would be a cornerstone of his administration, emphasizing that a ministry’s success or failure would directly reflect on its commissioner.

The Governor also commissioned eight new four-bedroom duplexes, complete with boys’ quarters, to alleviate a housing shortage for commissioners. Previously, only 22 residential units were available for a larger cabinet.

The Dean of Commissioners and Finance Commissioner, Fidelis Tilije, expressed gratitude to the governor, while Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Angele, lauded the project as a step towards improving officials’ welfare. Governor Oborevwori added that more development projects are slated for commissioning across the state in the coming months.
