Delta Governor’s Security Aide Urges Police Overhaul Amid Surge in Kidnappings

John Enamuotor, Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Security Matters, has called on the Delta State Commissioner of Police to restructure the personnel at the Abraka Police Division, citing a rise in kidnappings and related crimes in the area.

In a formal letter, Enamuotor expressed deep concern over the increasing insecurity in Abraka, attributing part of the issue to the prolonged tenure of some police officers—particularly the Divisional Police Officer (DPO)—who have served in the community for 10 to 15 years.

He warned that such extended postings may lead to overfamiliarity with local crime suspects, potentially undermining the officers’ effectiveness.

“To tackle the persistent crime wave, I strongly recommend the immediate redeployment of officers who have served in Abraka for over a decade, especially the DPO,” Enamuotor stated, urging the Commissioner to bring in new personnel who can introduce fresh strategies to combat crime.

Enamuotor also raised alarms over rising drug abuse in the area, linking it to the uptick in criminal activities, including kidnappings. He called for intensified police efforts to curb the activities of drug dealers operating in the community.

Further compounding the situation, Enamuotor noted the recruitment of questionable individuals into local security groups such as the Federal Hunters, Anti-Cult units, and Vigilante outfits. He called for a thorough review of their recruitment processes to ensure that only credible individuals are enlisted.

“In light of these security challenges, it is crucial to transfer long-serving officers, tighten the vetting process for local security recruits, and clamp down on drug-related activities in Abraka,” he added.

Despite the concerns, Enamuotor commended the Governor of Delta State for his continued commitment to enhancing security and improving the welfare of residents through impactful policies, development initiatives, and infrastructure projects.
