The Delta State Government has restated its commitment to delivering on key projects and empowerment programmes, insisting that members of the State Executive Council remain united in driving Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, made this known while briefing journalists in Asaba. He dismissed reports of infighting among commissioners as falsehoods deliberately planted to distract the administration from its development priorities.
Aniagwu stressed that the administration has continued to channel resources into people-oriented programmes designed to cushion economic hardship and stimulate growth. He cited the RYSA youth scheme, the MORE Biz-Up initiative, women empowerment projects, ICT and girl-child training, as part of ongoing interventions.
He also highlighted the widows’ welfare scheme, under which 10,000 widows receive ₦15,000 monthly stipends and health insurance coverage. At the launch of the scheme, each beneficiary received ₦45,000 upfront to cover three months in arrears.
On infrastructure, Aniagwu listed several flagship projects, including the ₦59.7 billion Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor, the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli, and the ₦35 billion Effurun–Sapele Road dualisation. He noted that supplementary road works were also ongoing in Warri, Abraka, Asaba, and other areas, alongside school rehabilitation projects.
“These projects are based on needs assessment to ensure value for money and maximum impact,” Aniagwu explained.
Responding to claims of disunity in government, Aniagwu maintained that the State Executive Council remains solidly behind Governor Oborevwori.
“Since they cannot attack the governor on performance, they are resorting to falsehood,” he said. “There was no fight between commissioners. These stories are baseless and never happened.”
Aniagwu reaffirmed that the administration will not be distracted by what he described as “discordant voices,” stressing that more programmes will be rolled out from October, particularly as the rainy season eases, to boost the state’s economy and GDP.
