DELTA: The Delta State Government has taken a major step to combat erosion by providing N1 billion in counterpart funding for a European Investment Bank (EIB)-assisted project.

Commissioner for Environment, Ejiro Tommy Jamani, made this known during a visit to the Amachai/Ogbozoma erosion site in Okpanam. He was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Minnie Oseji.

He said the funding shows the state’s commitment to protecting communities threatened by erosion. “Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is determined to restore affected areas,” he said.

The government has also approved an additional N300 million for engineering designs and stakeholder engagements. The project, which focuses on the Amachai/Ogbozoma and Vanguard Area erosion sites, is set to begin in April.

Jamani urged residents to support the initiative and cooperate with contractors. “This project will improve lives and infrastructure,” he added.

With these efforts, the state is taking strong measures to address environmental challenges and safeguard communities.
