DELTA: In a dramatic expression of political discontent in rivers state, some Ijaw youths in Delta State has staged a mock obituary for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The event, which has sparked widespread reactions, saw a group of people carrying a casket adorned with Wike’s poster while chanting songs suggesting his political downfall.
In a viral video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) captured the scene, with participants dancing and singing, “Wike, rest in peace,” in what appeared to be a symbolic protest against the former Rivers State governor.
Reacting to the development, a social media user who shared the video condemned the act, stating, “I do not support this. These are some Ijaw people in Delta State holding a funeral service for Wike with ‘Gone So Soon’ inscribed on a casket. It’s wrong na… Haba.”
The mock obituary comes amid heightened political tensions in Rivers State, where a state of emergency has been speculated due to the ongoing power struggle between Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The rift between the two politicians has divided political loyalists, with some Ijaw groups reportedly aligning with Fubara in the unfolding crisis.
While Wike is yet to respond to the mock burial, political observers have described the act as a strong message from aggrieved Ijaw youths who feel sidelined in the current political dynamics.
