Traditional rulers in Delta State have pledged their commitment to strengthening Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s peace-building efforts, stressing that stability remains the bedrock of development.
The Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, HRM Dr. Morris Ogheneochuko Eyekpimi-Egboboyen (Owhotemu II), and the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Ekemejewan Sideso (Abe I, OON), made the pledge in separate goodwill messages during the 2025 International Peace Day celebration held in Warri.
Represented by Chief John Edgar Eranvor, the Uloho of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, HRM Eyekpimi-Egboboyen expressed concern over recurring tensions in Warri South, noting that such disputes have slowed development. He urged the state government to implement existing recommendations on communal crises and warned against tolerating violent behaviour.
“Peace must prevail with zero tolerance for brazen violent behaviours in Warri and Delta State at large,” the monarch stated.
On his part, HRM Sideso, represented by High Chief Abovi Hope Erute, President General of Uvwie Kingdom, credited the enabling environment created by the Oborevwori administration for the relative stability in Uvwie. He praised the efforts of Uvwie Local Government Chairman, Hon. Chief Anthony Ofoni, security agencies, and the Uvwie Palace Security Committee for sustaining calm in the area.
The monarch also urged Nigerians to embrace dialogue and mutual respect, describing peace as the foundation for prosperity and unity.
Both royal fathers assured Governor Oborevwori of their readiness to collaborate with government to advance lasting peace across the state, adding that the International Peace Day observance should inspire stronger collective resolve to address conflicts and promote harmony.
