Delta North APC Ward Chairmen Demand Suspension of Ongoing Congress

By Peter Onyekachukwu

Ward chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North Senatorial District have called for an immediate suspension of the ongoing ward congress in the area, citing concerns over fairness and transparency.

In a letter addressed to the state party leadership, the chairmen urged that the exercise be halted and restarted under a process they described as open, constitutionally compliant, and clearly allocating positions between longstanding members and new entrants.

The chairmen criticized the current consensus-based approach, describing it as inconsistent with party provisions and sidelining grassroots leaders. They claimed that loyal party members who contributed to the party’s previous electoral successes are being marginalized.

The protest letter further alleged that some recent entrants into the party, including former members of opposition platforms, are being favored in the ongoing congress.

According to the chairmen, these new members are motivated more by political self-interest than commitment to party ideology, raising concerns about the potential impact on party cohesion and discipline at the ward level.

The signatories stressed that ward chairmen play a critical role in safeguarding party interests at the grassroots, and urged state leadership to intervene urgently to restore transparency and fairness in the Delta North ward congress process.
