DELTA: Former Deputy Senate President and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has predicted the downfall of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a meeting of APC elders, leaders, and stakeholders at Uvwie Hall in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, Omo-Agege cited the recent defection of Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Governor James Ibori, as a significant blow to the PDP.
“The collapse of PDP in Delta State has already begun,” Omo-Agege declared. “Just last week, we received Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu into the APC fold. As we speak, PDP structures in Ethiope West and Ethiope East have crumbled. This is just the beginning.”
He assured APC stakeholders that internal crises within the party would be resolved through democratic processes, promising a free and fair congress using the Option A4 voting system.
“Lack of internal democracy has been the major complaint,” Omo-Agege said. “I commit to my leaders and stakeholders today that no one will compile lists for exco positions. Every member will line up behind their candidate of choice at their wards, and the person with the highest number will emerge. This is the only way to strengthen our party ahead of 2027.”
Addressing concerns that APC favors defectors over old members, the senator emphasized the importance of numbers in politics.
“Politics is a game of numbers. We must welcome everyone joining our party. The PDP’s collapse is inevitable, and we must be prepared to accommodate the influx of new members,” he stated.
Omo-Agege urged APC members to remain united, adding that the party’s forthcoming congress would mark the beginning of a stronger and more inclusive APC in Delta State.
