Delta Police Arrest Female Courier, Recover 367 Live Ammunition in Warri

By Peter Onyekachukeu

The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on arms trafficking and kidnapping across the state.

Acting on credible intelligence from the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) led by ASP Julius Robinson, arrested a female suspect, identified as Jamila Abubakar, at the Conoil Filling Station along the Warri–Patani Road in Effurun.

According to the Command, the suspect was found with a cash sum of ₦550,000, neatly concealed beneath her bag, suspected to be proceeds of illegal transactions. Her arrest reportedly led to a follow-up operation that yielded major recoveries.

Building on the intelligence, the operatives stormed the Niger-Cat area of Warri, where they arrested a notorious arms dealer, Ahmed Ibrahim, aged 31, of Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area, around 7:25 a.m. on October 22, 2025.

A search conducted on him led to the recovery of 115 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition, and 32 live cartridges concealed in a bag.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a major supplier of weapons to bandit groups in the North and has been on the police watchlist for his alleged role in several high-profile kidnappings and armed robbery incidents.

Police sources linked Ibrahim to the kidnap and murder of one Ogheneovo Onemu, who was abducted on May 17, 2024, at Ajaokuta community in Ughelli North Local Government Area, and later killed despite a ₦4 million ransom payment.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, described the operation as another milestone in the Command’s effort to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and dismantle criminal networks in the state.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.

“The Command will continue to sustain its momentum against crime and ensure that all criminal elements are brought to justice,” Abaniwonda assured.
