In a major security breakthrough, the Delta State Police Command has arrested two notorious native doctors, three suspected kidnappers, and 184 alleged internet fraudsters during coordinated operations across Delta and Edo States.
The arrests followed credible intelligence reports about a planned wave of high-profile kidnappings in Sapele, Oghara, and surrounding areas, allegedly orchestrated by a dreaded criminal syndicate led by one Owei Abebo, popularly known as “Adusa.”
Spokesman of the command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the developments in a statement issued Wednesday.
“On July 19, operatives of the CP’s Special Assignment Team, led by ASP Julius Robinson, apprehended one Peter Benson, 35, a suspected native doctor from Kwale, Ndokwa West LGA,” Edafe said.
Benson was reportedly responsible for preparing ritual fortification for the gang. His confession led police to another key figure, Joseph Saniyo, 63, from Ajakurama community in Edo State. Saniyo, also a native doctor, was found in possession of three live tortoises and various fetish items believed to be used for criminal protection rites.
Further intelligence guided operatives to Oghara, where the suspected kingpin, Owei Abebo a.k.a. Adusa, was arrested alongside two accomplices: Ebi Maye (41), and Happy Obegha (39), both from Delta and Edo States respectively.
“A search of their hideouts yielded 247 rounds of live ammunition intended for submachine guns, alongside charms, phones, and other incriminating items,” Edafe stated.
Preliminary investigations revealed the group was planning coordinated abductions targeting influential residents in the area before the operation was foiled.
In a separate operation, the police, working in conjunction with the Nigerian Army, also arrested 184 suspects involved in internet fraud and other cyber-related offences. Several laptops and mobile devices were recovered during the raid.
The Delta State Police Command says it remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and restoring safety across the state.
