The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in the fight against crime in Ughelli and its environs, with the arrest of suspected armed robbers, drug dealers, and recovery of stolen vehicles, arms, and contraband drugs.
Speaking during a press briefing in Ughelli, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling criminality.
He assured residents that with the deployment of the new Ughelli Area Command, cases of robbery, drug abuse, and other crimes would be drastically reduced.
Arrest of Robbery Suspects and Recovery of Stolen Vehicles
On August 26, 2025, a man reported being robbed by a five-man armed robbery gang who carted away phones, laptops, a 65-inch television, and other valuables.
Acting on intelligence, operatives arrested one Faith Perry, who was in possession of one of the stolen phones. She led the police to her boyfriend, Kelly Otobure, where other stolen items were recovered, including the television and gaming consoles.
Further interrogation led to the arrest of the gang leader, Samson Ugbe, also known as Big Man, alongside other gang members. Two suspected stolen vehicles linked to robberies in Oghara and Oroye warehouse, where over 180 bags of rice were stolen, were also recovered.
Robbery Suspects Nabbed, Arms Recovered On August 25, 2025, operatives arrested robbery suspects Henry Bernard (35), Justice Ayero (39), and Oho Ogbavwomera, all from Aladja, Udu LGA, for snatching a motorcycle at gunpoint.
Their confessions led to the arrest of one Oluwa Felix of Owawha community, where a single-barrel gun, dagger, hacksaws, masking tape, and other items were recovered.
Drug Baroness Arrested in Afisere
In a separate operation on August 29, 2025, the Ughelli Area Command stormed suspected criminal hideouts in Afisere, arresting a notorious drug dealer, 52-year-old Egbule Isioma, and three apprentices.
A raid on her residence yielded 355 bottles of CSC Codeine, 392 rolls of Tramadol capsules of various strengths, cannabis, swinol capsules, and other illicit drugs. Police described her as a major distributor of drugs in Ughelli and its environs.
Stolen Luxury Vehicles Recovered
On August 24, 2025, acting on credible intelligence, operatives arrested one Igenebo John (35), of Estako East LGA, Edo State, while attempting to sell a stolen Lexus RX350 and a Mercedes-Benz GLK350 for N2 million each. The vehicles were traced back to a robbery in Sapele, where the victim, Nathaniel Ugbebe, reported that armed men invaded his home, stole valuables worth millions of naira, transferred N1.9 million from his account, and escaped with his vehicle.
The Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects, including a man identified only as Ameachi.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, who issued the statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court once concluded.
