Delta Police Arrest Suspected Cultists, Recover Locally Made Firearms, Phones, Tricycle

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Delta State Police Command has recorded breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on cultism, violent crime and illegal possession of firearms, following two separate operations in Agbor and Warri.

The Command said the operations, executed by tactical operatives and divisional patrol teams, led to the arrest of two suspected cult members, the recovery of three locally made firearms, assorted mobile phones, power banks and an abandoned tricycle.

According to the statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the first operation took place on November 8, 2025, at about 5:35pm, following intelligence that suspected members of the Eiye confraternity were converging at Ojeifo Street by Iduwe, Agbor.

The Divisional Police Officer in Agbor, CSP Michael Obekpa, reportedly led a rapid response team comprising divisional patrol operatives and the Civilian Anti-Cult Unit to the location, where two suspects — Agu Nnamdi of Ohumere Quarters, Agbor, and Promise Banco of Iduwe Street, Agbor-Obi — were apprehended.

The police added that a locally fabricated pistol, allegedly concealed in a black nylon bag by the suspects, was recovered as evidence. Both men are now in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing gang members.

In a related development, operatives attached to ‘B’ Division, Warri, on surveillance duty, intercepted an abandoned tricycle containing two locally made double-barrel guns on November 16, 2025, at about 9:30am.

The surveillance team, led by CSP Josephine Ekebuike, reportedly sighted a tricycle rider driving against traffic at high speed along Arubi Street by DECO Road, Warri, prompting a hot pursuit into First Marine Quarters where the rider and two passengers abandoned the vehicle and escaped.

A search conducted on the recovered tricycle led to the discovery of two locally fabricated double-barrel guns, nine mobile phones, four power banks and a screwdriver believed to be tools used for criminal activities.

Edafe stated that security operatives have since intensified search operations within the area to track down the fleeing suspects and their possible accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the operatives for their swift response and restated the Command’s determination to tackle armed crime and cult-related violence.

He appealed to residents to remain vigilant and to volunteer timely and credible information, assuring that such details would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
