The Delta State Police Command has assured residents of adequate security before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations, following the massive deployment of personnel across the state.
The assurance was given by the Commissioner of Police (CP), who ordered an extensive security operation to ensure the safety of lives and property, as well as a hitch-free yuletide celebration in all parts of Delta State.
According to the command, all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Commanders have been directed to identify and deploy officers to major celebration venues, recreational centres and public spaces to forestall criminal activities during the festive period.
Patrol teams drawn from specialised units, including Dragon Patrol, Safer Highways, Quick Response Squad, Rapid Response Squad, CP-SAT and the Eagle-Net Special Squad, have been deployed along major routes such as the Asaba–Onitsha Head Bridge, Anwai Campus Gate to Illah, Onicha Ugbo–Idumuje-Ugboko road, PTI axis and DSC Roundabout.
The police have also stationed patrol teams on key highways, including the Asaba–Agbor Expressway, Abraka–Eku Road and Asaba–Kwale/Ughelli Road, while divisions in Abraka, Ughelli and Sapele have reinforced security along their respective express routes.
Within Asaba metropolis, heavy deployment has been carried out at identified flashpoints such as Summit Junction, Inter-Bau Roundabout, Federal Medical Centre Roundabout, Ibusa Junction along Nnebisi Road, Ogbe-Ogonogo Market, Government House Gate, Coker Junction, Airport Junction and Federal College Junction.
To ease traffic congestion during the festive rush, police officers and traffic wardens have been deployed specifically for traffic control at the Asaba–Onitsha Head Bridge.
The DPOs of ‘B’ and ‘C’ Divisions in Asaba, alongside the State Traffic Officer, have been tasked with coordinating traffic management in collaboration with other security agencies.
In Warri, Effurun and surrounding areas, the DPOs of Ekpan and Ebrumede divisions have been directed to ensure adequate security coverage and free flow of traffic, particularly around the busy DSC and Effurun roundabouts.
The CP also ordered the deployment of Marine Police operatives to waterways across the state to combat sea piracy, illegal bunkering and other crimes, with special focus on the Escravos, Burutu and Warri waterways to protect traders and travellers.
Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has been mandated to commence continuous “Operation Show of Force” across the state from Sunday, December 21, 2025.
The police command urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information, while reiterating its commitment to maintaining law and order throughout the festive season and beyond.
The Commissioner of Police, on behalf of officers and men of the Delta State Command, wished Deltans and Nigerians a peaceful and hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebration.
